Our Mission
The goal
To recruit highly motivated and capable players and introduce them to the best coaches on the central coast, and combine the two in a creative, high paced and challenging training environment that promotes growth and development and targets our CCU teams playing at the highest levels and in the best possible Leagues, Tournaments and Showcase Events.
The MEthod
CCU recognizes the importance of a balanced life plan for players, and combines a comprehensive soccer program with player social, emotional and physical wellness. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, healthy and challenging environment while promoting the highest standards of excellence, through a personal commitment to outstanding character and sporting behavior.
The People
Our CCU Coaches are our primary role models and facilitators for all methodology, and all standards and professional demeanor. Supervised by CCU Technical Directors and Directors of Boys/Girls, coaches are consistently mentoring, teaching and promoting players, while establishing program excellence and attaining measured success in training, at competitions and off the field. In addition to the coaching team, CCU programs and methods are impacted by an active and instrumental Director of Operations, and a progressive, sound & strategic governing Board of Directors.

Meet Our Team
Steve Sampson
President | Chief Financial Officer
Coach Sampson has long been one of the premier coaches in the United States. As a former Men’s National Team Head Coach for the United States and Costa Rica, and former Head Coach of the LA Galaxy, Coach Sampson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him to the Central Coast. Beyond his role as President, and Boys Technical Director for Central Coast United, he also is the Head Coach of the Cal Poly Men’s Soccer Team. Coach Sampson lives locally on the Central Coast with his wife Sheri.
Alex Crozier
Girls North Technical Director
Coach Crozier has long been a member of the San Luis Obispo area. He and his wife Judy reside locally, with their daughter Angie, and their two sons Dan and Bo. Coach Crozier loves working with youth soccer players on the Central Coast. In addition to his role within Central Coast United, Coach Crozier will be entering into his 30th season the Head Coach of the Cal Poly Women’s Soccer Team. He is the only head coach in program history, and has accrued the most victories in Big West history.

Boys North Director of Coaching
Coach McNicol brings to the club an excellent track record for success and development from the grass-roots level, all the way to the national team. A former player for Rangers FC in Scotland, Coach McNicol resides locally, and oversees the boys side of the club. In addition to Central Coast United, Coach McNicol also serves as an assistant coach at Cal Poly for the Men’s Soccer Team.
Scott Williams
Girls North Director of Coaching
Coach Williams has been a part of the San Luis Obispo community for over nine years. After graduating from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, he moved to San Luis Obispo to pursue his coaching career and his M.S. in Kinesiology from Cal Poly. In addition to directing the girls side of the club, Coach Williams also works for the Cal Poly Women’s soccer team in the role of Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

He has worked as a part of well known soccer clubs, Fram Soccer Club and Davis Legacy Soccer Club on his way to joining CCU. He is well known for his friendly nature and awesome accent. Coach Payne is the engine that makes the club run.
